Drunk and Doubly Dangerous

Málaga Policía Local have arrested a driver of a PHV (like Uber or something similar) after a dangerous chase through the western area of the capital to change the him.

He was eventually caught after crashing into a traffic light, but rather than accepting that he had been nabbed, he threatened both police officers with a large clasp knife. Not somebody you’d like your daughter to bring home for tea, then.

The driver, who reportedly has a long criminal record for assaulting law-enforcement officers, tested positive for alcohol and drugs, according to the police.

The incident happened last Saturday around 18:45h when the 092 emergency dispatch centre began receiving calls warning of a PHV vehicle driving erratically and dangerously. During its route, the car reportedly collided with several vehicles. As the situation could result in injuries to pedestrians and other drivers, the police sent out patrols to track him down.

The police station later heard that the hail-&-ride vehicle had crashed into a traffic light. Two patrol cars belonging to the Policía Local arrived and found the driver inside, who was reportedly smoking what appeared to be a cocaine pipe and holding a large clasp knife in his hand.

When they told him to get out, he allegedly attempted to lunged at the officers with the knife who manged to dodge the attack. After this, he got out and walked to the pedestrian path, and held the knife to his own neck, threatening to do himself in.

The officers told him repeatedly to drop the knife but he ignored them until they drew their weapons, which convinced him to drop the knife and they immediately cuffed and arrested him.

He was first taken to a medical centre for evaluation, where he continued to threaten both the officers and the staff. A blood test revealed a high level of alcohol in his blood as well as traces of drugs.
