We become forgetful with age and leave things in supermarkets, like keys, a personal shopping trolley, your grandmother’s funeral ashes… Wait!

Yes, that’s what happened in Benidorm and the Policía Local spent the next 24 hours tracking down the forgetful owners of the funeral urn who they had left it in a supermarket locker.

The supermarket manager brought along the urn to the Lost Property Department at the Policía Local station to share space with lost wallets, telephones, glasses and keys, etc.

The officers appealed via social media and local news outlets for anybody who might know of somebody who had recently picked up a funeral urn – remember this popular destination on the Costa Blanca is inundated with out-of-towners on holiday at the moment.

The Chief of the municipal police explained that they had also searched their own records and those of other police forces to look for recent deaths in the area.

Thanks to the above archives search, they managed to track down the family to which the ashes belonged… well they belonged to the person cremated, but you know what we mean. Finally the urn was handed over to the grateful but forgetful relatives.
