Baby Left in Car Dies

Whilst we used a tongue-in-cheek tone about the forgotten funeral urn, there is nothing that can be taken lightly about the death of baby that had been left in a car in August in the Canary Islands.

The 20-month-old baby succumbed to the consequences of heatstroke in the early hours of last Sunday in Fuerteventura. The child was rushed to the nearest hospital only to be taken by an air-ambulance helicopter to the Materno Infantil en Gran Canaria where even the specialised efforts of the medical staff were unable not save its life.

The parent had simply forgotten that the baby was in the car, sleeping, when it was parked, during a heatwave.

This is a tragedy that no marriage can survive and a disaster that typically claims the life of aged grandparents because they have a double blow to deal with; the direct loss of their grandchild whilst also witnessing their own child suffer an unbearable agony that they have no hope of being able to lessen.
