Emblematic Beacon Repaired

The maritime signaling beacon on the Playa Granada groyne that was washed away by a storm has been rebuilt and put back into service.

This very importan,t safety feature that served to warn boats of the presence of the groyne projecting out into the sea was replaced following Kirstin Gale, thanks to emergency aid (2.9m euros) approved by the Central Government to repair storm damage along the Costa Tropical.

To give readers some idea of the force of the waves, one of the pieces that had been washed away weighed over 12 metric tonnes.

The groyne stands right next to the Chiringuito Hoyo 19, where the said storm dug out the beach right in front of the chiringuito leaving it literally perched above a sand shelf in the beach, until more sand was lorried in, together with a large-rock wall to shield the beach bar from further heavy, wave action
