Around two in the afternoon yesterday a small motorcruiser caught fire next to the Motril Port Yacht Club, injuring two from the same family; the boat owner and his daughter.

The Motril Fire Department dealt with the fire, which was first thought to have been caused by a gas bottle or a fire in the engine compartment.
According to the emergency coordination centre, 112 , several eyewitnesses raised the alarm as soon as they saw flames coming from the moored craft.
The two people on board, the owner and his daughter, were rushed to Hospital Santa Ana in Motril with burns of varying degrees of severity.
One of the hypothesis about how it started was that there was a fuel leak filling the craft with fumes so that when the engine was started, there was an small explosion with the resulting flames.
Several people at the club rushed to aid the people on the boat with fire extinguishers. Because of the quick response, it does not appear that the boat was seriously damaged because the detonation caused a flash and then flames rather than an explosion that could have wrecked it.
This is all the information available at the moment, so the cause of the fire is just speculative. Hopefully, more information will emerge about how the two injured people are faring.
