Rats Run Amok?

Well, whilst the party in power sings its own praises and highlights improvements to their town, the opposition party will scour the municipality looking for something to complain about.

This is the case in Motril were the PSOE opposition party have denounced the “lamentable state” of an empty building plot behind Calle Nuestra Señora del Mar, in the Barrio de Varadero.

They say that they have repeatedly brought this to the attention of the (PP) governing party over the years but to no avail.

For example, they brought it up in a Plenary Meeting in February 2024, and the motion to sort the problem out was approved unanimously; they even registered a complaint about it this year, but the state of the vacant plot remains the same; a tipping ground that attracts rats.

The Spokesperson for the PSOE, Gádor Domínguez, said that the situation had worsened considerably in the last few weeks. Although the Town Hall moved the rubbish hoppers eslewhere, the site was not cleaned up.

“Local residents come to us in their desperation to say that rats are not only running around in the dumped rubbish, but are also finding their way into their nearby houses,” adding, “It is unacceptable that families have to live alongside this situation owing to the inaction on the part of the Town Hall,” said the PSOE Spokesperson.

The PSOE say that just moving the rubbish hoppers is just a superficial move which has not solved the problem because the site needs to be cleared up and the vegetation cut back…
