What’s the biggest nuisance on the Costa Tropical? Jellyfish? No, it’s jet-skis, in some cases putting bathers lives a risk but also in general causing a god-awful din.

So, like previous years, the Almuñécar Town Hall has fished out the drone and gone jet-ski hunting where they are breaking the law and putting people’s lives a risk.
The drone surveillance operation starting this past weekend with the drone taking photos and videos of the offending jet-skis and using exact GPS coordinates. This evidence is processed and sent off to the Maritime Captaincy, which has the authority to issue fines for naughtiness on the waves. So, it’s no good opening the throttle and high-tailing it.
Now, the Councilor for Beaches, Lucía González, said that this service runs from 13:00h to 19.00h on Fridays to Sundays from now until the 15th of july, and from then until the 31st of August every day of the week.
But wait! The spy in the sky can also be used to help bathers in trouble by alerting the lifeguards.
This drone has a range of about one kilometre and will prioritise the Velilla and La Herradura beaches
Meanwhile, the Bahía Tranquila platform has requested that the Junta bans jet skis in La Herradura and The Ministry of Sustainability and Environment will study the request, noting that decisions require consensus among different social agents.
One last point, the archive photo that accompanies this article is from July 2023, so Almuñécar has been doing this for at least three years.
