Illegal Hotel Demolition Scandal

The ecologist groups, Salvemos Mojácar and the Levante Almeriense filed a complaint at the end of June, alledging malfeasance against the PSOE councillors who voted against the demolition of an illegal hotel.

The ecologist groups, Salvemos Mojácar and Levante Almeriense filed a complaint towards the end of last month, alleging malfeasance against the PSOE councillor who voted against the demolition of the Hotel Algorrobico monstrosity.

What happened was that seven, socialist councillors voted in favour of postponing the decision to nullify the building license originally issued for  the hotel located on Playa El Algarrobico just 25 metres from the shore and situated in the heart of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park.

The lawsuit names: José Luis Amérigo: spokesperson for the PSOE in Carboneras, Felipe Cayuela: Former PP (Partido Popular) Mayor and current independent councilor, Francisco Capel, Vanesa Fuentes, Mariana Esteban, and Isabel Hernández Caparrós: Socialist councilors, and  former PP, Ángeles Carrillo

Salvemos Mojácar pointed out that it was the only group that successfully halted the Hotel El Algarrobico project 20 years ago and has led the endless legal battle ever since. Accordingly, they view the councillors’ actions as “inadmissible disobedience and an act of manifest malfeasance.”

“No further reports are needed beyond the one already provided by the Consultative Council. The arguments presented regarding the alleged necessity of new reports are absolutely false; a mere unacceptable trick to continue delaying the affair. This action adds to 20 years of accumulated institutional rebellion,” read the Salvemos Mojácar communiqué.

Furthermore, the group accuses the PSOE and, by extension, the Government of Spain (who are PSOE socialists) of “manifest falsehood” in their recent statements about El Algarrobico. They demand that they get involved immediately by opening disciplinary proceedings against and expelling all socialist councillors from the municipality.
