The Infoca Plan system for the 2026 went into top gear during the last week of June going fully operational with a major deployment, but also with a complaint on the table. The acting president of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Juanma
Moreno, complained that the Central Government had allocated four fewer aircraft this year than in 2024. In other words, he claimed, Madrid had offered three aircraft as opposed to the seven allocated in 2024.
Be that as it may, the Junta has raised the Infoca budget to 271-million euros, which is a 5% increase on 2025.
He took another swipe at the PSOE, saying that this new budget was 60% more than in 2018 when the socialists were at the helm of the regional government.
The PM considers that Infoca is “the best forest firefighting system in Spain and Europe,” which does sound a little hyperbollic along the lines of Mr Trump’s utterances.
Infoca will field 4,700 personnel and for the first time don’t have contracts that conclude at the end of the fire season because according to Moreno, their contracts are for 365 days a year.
The reason that Infoca is being beefed up, perhaps, is because of the exceptionally wet winter and spring meaning that vegetation growth abounds. From January the 1st to June the 15th, Infoca was called out 236 times on forest land (73 fires and 163 minor outbreaks), representing 63 more deployments than in the same period of 2025.

“That rain was necessary, but once the high temperatures arrive and the land dries out, those fields become an absolute tinderbox; a massive fuel source for any fire,” PM Moreno warned.
To counteract the impact of global warming and the dreaded sixth-generation fires (which are capable of altering the weather conditions around them) Andalucía has significantly reinforced its tech and ground equipment, renewing 84% of its heavy fire-truck fleet and added eight, new, mobile units; one to each province.
Likewise, two cutting-edge, Heavy Machinery Units, key for night operations, and the Technical Fire Unit, which specialises in the strategic use of fire suppression and prevention tasks. They have also pumped 165-million euros since 2020 into Forest Defense Centres (Cedefo or fire-fighting bases).
As for airborne assets, the Junta has 43 of their own aircraft, three more than in 2025.
Finally, PM Moreno called for citizen cooperation in cornering arsonists by reporting suspicious or dangerous behaviour to 112 or to Seprona (Guardia Civil), while also praising infoca ground units for operating in full kit in impossible temperatures at the fire line.
