‘Imminent’ is an elastic word when it comes to interpretation, where politicians are concerned. Take the case of the promised new bus stop in La Herradura.
Mayor Juan José Ruiz Joya , an herradureño lad, during the 2023 local-elections campain said that approval of the new PGOU (which included the bus stop) was “imminent.” Hmmm…

Now, hardly surprisingly, an opposition party has picked up on the absence of the fabled, new, bus stop in their determination to oppose everything.
Yes, the local branch of the PSOE scoured the archives and pointed out that during the recent FITUR (International Tourism Fair) in Madrid, the Mayor promised the prompt arrival of the bus stop again, whilst his team screened images and videos of projects, “in progress.”
These projects were part of the petition for EU funding; an attempt that failed, it appears. So it was back to Almuñécar and working out how to fund these projects from the municipal coffers.
According to the PSOE, the 2026 budget made no mention of a new bus stop. Which is a pity because you need to have one leg longer than the other to stand up straight whilst you wait for a bus at the existing bus stop at the entrance to the village.
So exhausted from the strain of criticising the Mayor at every turn, the PSOE have come up with a solution themselves… which is just a roadmap setting out a list of objectives, specific dates for their realisation and a specific budget earmarked for each.
The fact is, the whole entrance junction for the village from the N-340 is bloody awful, let alone just the bus stop. When heading out onto the N-340 the traffic lights for turning west are on a slope so steep that it would make a Sherpa faint. A nightmare for rubbish, hill-start drivers.
