Rincón de la Victoria Town Hall is going to town on its campaign to track down the owners of defecating quadrupeds, using DNA taken from the excrement.
The Councillor for Health, Lola Ramos, said, “Since we set it up, there has been a notable improvement to street cleanliness and a reduction in canine excrement, especially in the most transited areas of the municipality.”

She went on to say that these campaigns were to promote responsible, pet ownership and to protect public places; thus contributing to improving the public image of the town.
She said that the results showed that canine DNA checking, which is reliable system, worked and that a controlled chain-of-custody is maintained during the process of collection and analysis. It is then checked against the pet-DNA register.
She finished by reminding all dog owners in Rincón de la Victoria that they are obliged to register their animal on the Censo Genético Municipal.
