The recent rain might have been destructive in some places but in others the result offers an impressive aquatic feature: the Maro waterfall as it plunges off the cliff.
All those years of drought or semi-drought took a toll on this waterfall, drying it up or reducing it to a dribble, but the rains from Borrasca Francis, have fed the Nacimiento de Maro which supplies the Cascada Grande de Maro via the Arroyo del Sanguino.

The water over the fall plunges 15 metres to the sea below. Curiously, the etymological Arabic origin of the name, Nerja (Narixa) means, manantial abundante (plentiful spring).
But this water provides more than a spectacle for the eye as it also supplies irrigation for the nearby farmer… who are set to lose their land as Larios won’t renew the land leases, but that is another story; one that we have covered elsewhere on the site.
