Officers from the Policía Nacional in Granada have arrested a 57-year-old bar owner for allegedly swindling an elderly customer.
The 94-year-old customer was a regular for having breakfast there and perhaps on this basis the bar owner ‘took charge’ of the elderly gentleman’s credit card and used it to spend 22,000 euros.

According to the police, when it came to the moment for the victim to pay for his breakfast, the bar owner took the man’s creditcard inside, alleging that there wasn’t enough coverage outside on the terrace for the mobile card-reader to work.
The victim didn’t realised that the man was using his card inside to make purchases, as well as charge for the breakfast. It’s not mentioned in the police report but the bar owner must have known the pin number in order to do this – perhaps the man in his 90s told him rather than having to get up and go inside.
This went on for two years.
The police launched an investigation, aptly name ‘Breakfast’ and put the period during which this crime was taking place as between June 2023 and June 2025.
The bar owner, after appearing before a police court, is presently in custody pending trial.
