Rambla Clearing

Motril Town Hall has finally got its act together and has started clearing the vegetation out of the Rambla de las Brujas, which looks a bit like Kew Gardens at the moment.

We have been lucky that late September didn’t bring a deluge (which is when rain normally falls) so the triffids and other vegetation in these storm channels didn’t end up on the beaches.

The Councillor for Agricultura y Medio Ambiente, Raquel Escámez, and the Councillor for Parques y Jardines, Daniel Ortega Tovar, made sure that they were present to be photographed standing, importantly, looking down at the actual person doing the work – we clipped the official photo to exclude them.

“Last year, the Junta de Andalucía notified the Town Hall that, as this stretch of the rambla runs through the town centre, it was the municipal authorities’ responsibility,” explained Raquel Escámez, adding, “Since then we have drawn up a Plan Anual de Actuación that contains six monthly clearing-out operations; one in spring and one in autumn, which is when it rains the most.”

Councillor Daniel Ortega said, “the Motril Fire Service regularly inspects the paved over area of the rambla to make sure that they are not blocked.”
