New Miradores for Maro

The natural park of Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Gordo, has a total area of 1,810 hectares, most of which lies on the Málaga side of the provincial border.

With its combined land and seabed, protected area, it is one of the most important natural parks on the Mediterranean; hence it being categorised as a Zona de Especial Importancia para el Mediterráneo‘ (ZEPIM).

For the above reason, Nerja Town Hall has approved a project to establish several new miradores (look-outs or panoramic view points) along the old N-340. This project has a budget of 547,515 euros, funded entirely through the EU (Next Generation).

Nerja Mayor, José Alberto Armijo (PP), said in a communique that they wanted the people of Nerja and Maro, as well as visitors, to be able to enjoy even more the wealth of landscape within the park.

The Councillor for Urban Development, Alberto Tomé (PP) said that as well as the vantage points the project also contemplates new bus stops for public transport, information panels, benches, rubbish containers and bollards to stop cars parking on pedestrian walk ways.

Once approved, the conditions of tender have to be drawn up for the work contract. The Town Hall has not given any timeline for this, so don’t hold you breath.
