The Town Hall has given the go-ahead for alterations to Hotel Miba and Hotel Salambina on the main road between La Caleta junction and the first entrance into Salobreña.
The Town Council did this by “rectifying an error” within the Urban Development Plan (PGOU) which affected the boundaries of these two establishments.
This change will allow the hotels to increase their services and improve their installations in general. The affected area of Hotel Miba covers 955 sq/m and 316 sq/m of Hotel Salambina.
The latter will be able to build an infinity pool and install a lift, for example, explained the hotel manager, Patricia Martin. She, you might remember, now also runs Benjamín’s old bar, El Sirocco, and what used to be McPepe’s Pizzeria but is now a standard chiringuito, more or less in front of Rey del Boquerón.
Mayor Javier Ortega pointed out that Salobreña doesn’t have many hotel beds, so this decision was one aimed at improving that situation.
So, what was the problem? That dates back to 2001 when the present PGOU was approved by the Junta using maps from the time, which were quite frankly, not up to scratch. Consequently, boundaries between properties in some cases were not accurately recorded on the said municipal maps. This was the case of the plots on which these two hotels stand.
These errors became apparent after the establishments applied for building licences to carry out alterations.
The Councillor for Urban Development, Juan ‘Many-Bricks’ Gutiérrez pointed out that the changes to the PGOU were permissible as long as they did not surpass more than five percent of the PR10 area, which they don’t. In other words, they didn’t have to go back to the Junta to get approval for the change to the PGOU.
However, the alterations still have to be displayed in public for a period of 20 days before the building permission can be granted, so that members of the public can raise objections, if they wish.
In the Plenary Meeting to discuss this point, everybody voted in favour except the three PP councillors, who abstained. Patricia belongs to the Martín family, who are very powerful in the village, hence the support, perhaps. The local head of the far-right party, Vox, for example is M.J. Martín Montero.
