The access roundabout under the Granada bypass for Armilla will soon have AI-operated traffic lights that judge when to change.
This roundabout has long been plagued by traffic build ups, as has others across the country so this kind of rotary junction is going the same way and the ones in the UK – traffic-light controlled.

Once the traffic-flow study that is being carried out where the Avenida Fernando de los Ríos reaches the GR-30 junction, a project will be drawn up to install this kind of traffic light. This might be a temporary solution because they are also looking at a subterranean pass to connect Armilla to the city of Granada.
Anybody who has lived in the province for more than 30 years will remember that the old GR-323 was the main road to Granada from the coast, running through Béznar, Talará, Dúrcal, Padul, Alhendin (airbase) and Armilla entering Granada to link up with the Camino de Ronda at the Realejo junction where the gasolinera use to be.
Anyway, I digress, the AI controlled traffic lights will judge when the lights need changing depending on the flow coming onto the roundabout.
If all goes well (hardly likely, let’s be honest) the contract will go out for tender in the next few weeks and the work contract awarded before the year is out.
Editorial comment: in other words, in the 21st Century, a standard, timer-operated traffic lights will be replaced by AI one which will imitate what the old-style police officer on traffic duty used to do all those years ago, standing there, judging the traffic flow and stopping and waving on traffic with hand gestures and a whistle. Have we gone full circle?
