Three young women were hit by an SUV last Sunday morning in the Es Puetó area, between the municipalities of Sant Josep de sa Talaia and Sant Antoni de Portmany, (Ibiza).

The Policia Local arrested the driver, an Irishman who was allegedly driving under the influence of laughing gas, which is classified as a DUI.

The accident occurred around 11:30h on Sunday the 7th and two of the victims were taken to the Vila Clinic and the other to Hospital Can Misses. One was admitted in critical condition (who later died), another in serious condition, and the third only slightly injured.

He was duly charged for DUI and manslaughter through gross negligence, as well as causing serious injuries to the other two victims.

It was thanks to numerous eyewitnesses to the incident who helped identify the driver, thanks to photos/videos

Although the emergency services initially reported that the incident took place in Sant Antoni de Portmany, it actually happened on the border between this municipality and Sant Josep.
