The Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa Tropical and the Provincial Council joined forces to organised the laying out of lane markers off the beaches along the coast.
These buoys will separate swimming areas from where craft can sail, be they the viscerally hated jet-skis, better tolerated speed boats or even benign pedaloes. This demarcation line runs 200 metres off the shore.

They are there not only to keep speeding craft out of swimming areas but also to mark the limit that you can swim out.
The Chairman for the Mancomunidad de la Costa Tropical, Rafael Caballero, (whose name might sound familar as he also gets a full salary for being an Almuñécar Town Council member) explained that the ship will be busy laying out buoys and lines along the beaches of Almuñécar, La Herradura, Salobreña, Motril, Torrenueva Costa, Carchuna Calahonda, Castell de Ferro, La Mamola, Los Yesos, Melicena and La Rábita.
The Provincial Councill will provide 60,000 euros and the Mancomunidad plus coastal towns, another 60,000 euros to make up the 99,000 plus IVA. This budget not only covers setting out the lanes, but also maintaining them (reparing any damage) and removing them again come the 15th of October.
