The question is, will the parking installations beneath the new Mercado Municipal in Almuñécar be open in time for summer?
Well, the Mayor, Juan José Ruiz Joya, says that he hopes that it will be, which… doesn’t sound very promising, does it?

Anyway, he announced all kinds of wonders during the visit of a Junta bigwig in charge of regional tourism; some of which are waiting for approval and others already have it.
For example, he said that “very shortly” they would start placing “figures” on the seabed as part of the Parque Azul de vida Submarina, and they are “only” waiting for permission to commence operations.
He also mentioned Plan Munitur, which is all about tidying up the Peñón del Santo, where an observation platform will be built half way up the steps to the top. There used to be a chambao there, if I remember correctly, a couple of decades back.
He also said that they were working on a study project for improving access to the Old Town, specifically, to the Castle.
And as for the Mercado Municipal, he said, “It’s not a question of money, because now we can finish it without a problem,” and that they are only waiting upon the installation of furniture, fridges, etc in the individual stalls.
He then went on to have a good moan at the Central Government, which just happens to be run by the conservatives eternal rivals, The PSOE, who have spent three million euros on transporting in sand for Cotoboro beach in the last few years, “The money spent is much more than is needed to build a breakwater,” he says, but appears to have amnesia concerning the fact that when his own party was in power in Madrid, they did exactly the same thing. Politicians, eh?
