Fighting off The Triffids

OK, that's a slight exaggeration but one look at the park with exercise equipment for the elderly in Vélez de Benaudalla shows that it does look a tad 'maintenance bereft."

At least that is what the local branch of the Partido Popular (PP) in the said village considers; i.e., that there is a serious lack of maintenance and cleaning around Vélez de Benaudalla

Party Spokesman, Rafael Rodríguez, said, “The state of many parts of the town is regrettable, with roadside paths full of grass and weeds that hinder the vision of drivers and the passage of pedestrians, non-existent mirrors at intersections, manholes covers and lampposts in poor condition or walls in danger of collapsing where rodents congregate.”

He considers that the situation is very worrying, thanks to the attitude of the Mayor, Francisco Gutiérrez, who is doing nothing, he claims, to sort it out.

The photo, for instance, is of the small park next to the Day Centre, which the PP claims has been flooded since November…

Now, obviously on a roll, the Spokesman continued, “The lack of action on the part of the governing party could suppose a risk for locals,” adding that, “Despite being informed repeatedly about points that require their taking of urgent action, the Town Hall is not solving the problems that affects us all and puts us at risk.”

Editorial: so there you have it, there are alligators in the swamp that used to be the pensioners work-out park and triffids obscuring the view along pedestrian pavements, but yes, I wouldn’t personally venture into the pensioners park unless I was backed up by a company of Gurkhas armed with elephant guns.
