All this talk about dropping the hour change twice a year remains hot air, it appears, because this Sunday the clocks go forward.
In the eary hours of Sunday, 02.00h will suddenly become 03.00h all over Europe, meaning we lose an hour of sleep.

Islas Canarias will do the change at 01.00h Peninsular time as they are one hour behind the rest of Spain. In fact, the whole of Spain should be on the same time as the Canary Islands, as that is the natural time for our meridain.
Franco, if you didn’t know it, at the beginning of WW2, Franco was convinced that Hiter was going to win, so he put Spain on the same time as Berlin, instead of Greenwich Mean Time.
They might have been busy pulling down statues of Franco and his cohorts, renaming streets from fascist, Spanish Civil-War heroes to more acceptable ones yet we’re still stuck with the indelible reminder of Franco being on the wrong time zone.
Spain dropped changing over to summer time between 1950 and 1973 – it came back in 73 because of the 70s Oil Crisis and we’ve been farting around with it ever since.
Anyway, just in case you didn’t know, when you get up on Sunday, don’t forget to change the clock on your microwave, you electric oven and on your vehicle dashboards, as well as any good, old fashion clocks that you might have around the house.
Personally, I drive around with the wrong time on my dashboard for half the year in bloody minded defiance. Yes, it’s sad.
