Fed up with Masons

The article title are words of a man just before punching a priest in the face, leaving him unconscious on the ground.

Father Salvador, who is the priest for the parish of Amargura, is in hospital because when he hit the ground, he also hit his head rending him unconscious.

The incident took place in the car park near the Plaza San Juan de la Cruz inMálaga. At the time the priest was in the company of another priest, Father Miguel Ángel.

Father Salvador, after presiding over Mass in the Iglesia de La Amargura, had gone to have dinner with his colleague, who had decided to accompany him to his car afterwards.

According to Father Miguel Ángel, a “robust man around 35” approached them and shouted, “I’m sick and tired of Masons” before attacking them. Father Miguel Ángel was able to dodge a blow but not so Father Salvador.

Father Miguel Ángel immediately phoned the emergency services and whilst he was waiting, a couple approached with a blanket for the victim. They said that they had just passed a man in an agitated state shouting in the streets.

Even when Father Salvador recovered consciousness, he remained groggy for several hours. In the meantime an ambulance had arrived and taken him to a nearby hospital. As he had a head injury he was kept in observation, as is the protocol.

Father Miguel Ángel believes that the incident was random because neither was dressed in priest garments (not even a collar) or had met the man before.

The Diocese of Málaga calls for prayers for a prompt recovery for the father and expressed its wish that the authorities can clarify what happened as soon as possible so that other such senseless, violent incidents can be avoided.
