It was around 08.30h this morning that a fisherman came across the body of a man floating off one of Almuñécar's peñones (rocky outcrops) near the Marina del Este.
First reports suggest that that the body found off el Peñón del Lobo is that of a 67-year-old, Swedish male.

A Guardia Civil launch recovered the body, as this area has no easy access by land, and first took it the the Marina del Este, where it was then transported to the Instituto de Medicina Legal in Granada for an autopsy.
The autopsy will establish whether the blow that the man had received to the face was caused by the rocks along the shoreline, and if possible to establish if the man had fallen by accident or if third persons were involved.
The Guardia Civil have opened an investigation and were able to establish the man’s identity owing to personal documents that he had on him. Nobody had reported the man missing.
Editorial note: the press release says ‘pescador,’ which can mean a fisherman or an angler, so it is probably the latter, upon reflection.
