Unjustifiable Expense?

The Partido Socialista (PSOE) opposition party in Almuñécar and La Herradura demands that the governing party (PP) provide information about the money spent on the Berlin Grüne Woche Fair.

The said fair in an annual agricultural event held in January and this year attracted 22,000 visitors over the ten days that it ran.

The Town Hall sent the Councillor for Agriculture, Carlos Ferrón, and the PSOE asked how it was possible that the councillor should be despatched to the fair.

“We have no idea if he was accompanied to this very professional fair only to meet up with PP politicians from the Provincial Council of Granada, when he could have met up with them here without spending a euro of taxpayers’ money,” said Councillor Francis Puertas, adding, “We don’t understand what he was doing there as Almuñécar didn’t have a stand.”

PSOE Councillor Puertas went on to complain that there is a total lack of transparency and the ruling party hasn’t published its work agenda on the Town Hall Transparency webpage since 2019.

His parting broadside was, “It is surprising that they spend money on agricultural fairs for photo shots whilst rural lanes are in a pitiful state and there isn’t enough money assigned in the budget to repair them.”

Editorial comment: It would be interesting to know if Councillor Ferrón even speaks English, let alone German.
