Almuñécar Town Hall has decided to remove the raised, zebra crossings along the Paseo de San Cristóbal road and repaint them on the same level as the road.

The Councillor for Mantenimiento y Obras Públicas, Francisco Rodríguez said that soon the seven raised pedestrian crossings will be removed in order to “improve the fluidity of the traffic flow,” as well as make it easier on ambulance occupants.

Councillor Rodríguez said that it would cost 37,912 euros to carry out this work which is part of the Town Hall’s Plan Sostenibilidad Turística and has EU funding (Next Generation).

Editorial comment: these raised zebra crossing were built far too high and/or too narrow, resulting in vehicles hitting their undersides on them and have been a nuisance since they were laid down.
