The Government has answered a written question entered by the PP in the Lower House of the Spanish Parliament concerning Motril Port having a rail connection.
The question was put before the current national administration by an MP whose name might ring a bell: Carlos Rojas? Well, this gentleman used to be the Mayor of Motril about 20-odd years back, so it is hardly surprising that he should be the one to put the Spanish Prime Minister on the Spot.
It was the Secretary of State for Relations with the Courts, who responded on December the 11th to the question, “What is the Government doing to promote” the said rail connection.
His answer was, “At present, the rail connection between Motril Port and Granada is not contemplated in the “current” railway planning. In other words, the project is not even being contemplated, let alone, “promoted.”
Member of Congress (Lower House) Carlos Rojas complained that the Government has “abandoned” several rail-connection projects within the province. He considers that Motril is not going to get a train connection because the Socialists who are in power at the moment did not fight hard enough before the EU to have it included in the Trans-European Transport Network
Editorial comment: he appears to have forgetten that not during the eight years that his party ran the country from 1996 to 2004 under Jose María Aznar as PM, nor during the seven years that the PP held power under PM Mariano Rajoy (2011-2015 & 2016-2018), did they lift a finger to give Motril this very necessary rail connection.
