La Herradura Burglar Caught

The Guardia Civil have arrested a man in his early 20s, suspected of being behind six burglaries in La Herradura.

The said break-ins took place between the 11th and 25th of November.

The 22-year-old man was caught red-handed by the Guardia Civil in the act of carrying out a burglary in a flat in La Herradura shortly after a previous burglary in a nearby urbanización.

The owner of the dwelling in the urbanización discovered a man (described as tall and thin) in her bedroom and had alerted the police. She also described what he was wearing; a white hooded garment. As soon as she saw him, she ran out of the house and cried for help.

When the police arrived, one of the officers found that the burglar, who had already, had gained entrance by breaking a window. The other officer searched a nearby block of flats and came across the suspect on the landing on one of the floors.

Behind the suspect, who was carrying a beach, cooler box and a bottle of wine amongst other items, was a door to a flat that had been forced

He was immediately arrested and taken to the Guardia Civil post in Almuñécar for questioning and booked for suspected acts of burglarly to two dwellings.

The subsequent police investigation turned up evidence that connected the suspect to four other break-ins carried out in the previous fortnight all within La Herradura. In one of the dwellings the suspect allegedly stole a bicycle with 10,000 euros, which has since been returned to its rightful owner.
