A man lost his life this morning in a road accident on the N-340 where it passes through the municipality of Almuñécar.
The accident involving a motorcyclist occurred around 11.00h this morning on the first big bend past the tunnel heading for La Herradura, accoring to the Centro de Coordinación de Emergencias (Cecem112).

Although the bike came to rest on the road surface, the rider was flung off the side of the road and down an embankment.
A UVI (paramedics onboard) ambulance from Motril was sent to the scene of the accident, as well as an air-ambulance helicopter. Also despatched were the Guardia Civil traffic police, the Motril fire service, the Policía Local and a road-maintenance crew.
The fire personnel reached the victim who had fallen seven metres down the embankment and put to use a portable, automated external defibrillator whilst practicing CPR on the victim, before bringing him up to road level to the awaiting ambulance. However, he was certified as deceased at the scene.
