When a sewer mains burst in Nerja last week, it produced a geyser some 20 metres high
This occurred at the eastern end of Playa Burriana on Wednesday. It appears that water-utility workers from Aguas de Narixa SA, on a maintenance task, caused this spectacular spout of water under pressure – they had been trying to fix another pipe that had a problem, when the main one blew.

Heavy machinery had damaged one of the two pipes leading from the pumping station for sewage to the sewage-treatment plant.
Given the origin of the water coming out of the damaged pipe, it was not exactly a pleasant shower, perhaps.
While eyewitnesses said that the water had been spraying out for over an our, representatives of the water-utility company claim that it was much less; more like half an hour.
Fortunately, when they originally laid the pipes from the pumping station to the sewage treatment plant, they put in two, just in case there would be a problem with one of them.
The bars and chiringuitos along Burriana Beach were not affected, although the road did have a bit of a coating. The road was also covered with stones and muds because the geyser was spraying with full force onto an earthen embankment.
