The Regional Minister for Justice, José Antonio Nieto, placed the symbollic first stone for the new law courts in Órgiva that will serve the needs of 23 towns and villages in the Alpujarra Granadina.
The said municipalities are: Alpujarra de la Sierra, Bubión, Busquístar, Bérchules, Capileira, Carataunas, Cádiar, Cástaras, Cáñar, Juviles, Lanjarón, Lobras, Murtas, Nevada, Pampaneira, Pórtugos, Soportújar, La Tahá, Torvizcón, Trevélez, Turón, Ugíjar and Válor, totalling between them some 24,000 inhabitants.
The building will almost be four times the size of the existing law courts and will bring together offices that are presently housed in different buildings.
The contruction will be carried out by two companies who are temporarily joined together as one entity for the task; in other words, an Union Temporal de Empresas. They are the Murcia-based, Soluciona Obras y Servicios and the Almería-based, Lirola Ingeniería y Obras.
The budget is of 5.6 million euros and the building work is estimated to take 14 months to complete. Therefore, the whole judicial bundle can move into their new single premises in early 2026.
As said above, presently the judicial offices and courts are housed in two separate locations; one owned by the Junta de Andalucía on Calle Flemings and the other, a rented premises on Calle Estación. Both buildings have architectural barriers; i.e., only stairs and no ramps or lifts for people with mobility problems.
