The Mayor of Jun has taken her own municipal police department to court over excessive overtime claims.
Mayor Pilar Jiménez (PP) is suing the local Chief of Police, accusing him of fraud, embezzlement misapproriation and document forgery.
He allegedly grossly inflated the number of hours worked as overtime for both himself and his subordinates, even so much as by 200 hours a month.
The Mayor realised that something odd was going on in July, soon after she took up office, and reported it to the Guardia Civil, because on average officers were claiming around 100 hours in overtime each month; i.e., the equivalent of two weeks in overtime (based on a 48-hour week) every a month.
To actually be able to work these extra hours, they would have to work 24 hours a day without rest.
Upon discovering the ‘anomaly’ she invested to find out who was submitting these claims. Furthermore, officers from the neighbouring town of Alfacar were also claiming overtime hours in Jun without either mayor being aware of it.
Editorial comment: sack the bloody lot if found guilty.
