A motion to sort out the sewage-pipe problem in Torrecuevas/San Sebastian was unanimously approved in the latest Plenary Meeting of Almuñécar Town Council.
We ran an article on this problem back in February this year, which reader’s might like to go back over.
The motion was put forward by the far-left party, IU for a solution to be found concerning the Caicillos-San Sebastián sewage pipe which is very old and cannot handle the increased demand owing to all the new housing in the area.
People living in the this part of the municipality have complained bitterly, pointing out that if the pipe collapses, then the situation will be much worse. A ‘stitch in time,’ comes to mind.
PP Councillor Rafael Caballero, who is also the Spokesman for the Partido Popular, as well as being the Chairman of the Mancomunidad, said that measures were being taken to solve the problem but requested that the IU Spokesman, Councillor Fernández, withdrew wording in the motion in order for his party to vote in favour, that said, “the Mancomunidad had done nothing, even though this problem comes under their mandate; i.e., sewage disposal.”
Councillor Fernández replied that he was happy to hear that the Mancomunidad was taking measures but that his party had received no news of such measures, despite the ruling party’s obligation to keep the opposition parties informed in all affairs.
He concluded by telling the PP that they could take any paragraph they wanted out, as long as they approve the motion and sort out the problem.
