The Chairman of the Mancomunidad, Rafael Caballero, paid a visit to the Almuñécar Barrio Torrecuevas, together with the Mayor, Juan José Ruiz Joya, concerning sewage disposal.
The evacuation of sewage from the housing in Torrecuevas has been a constant source of complaints concerning the smell emanating from it.
The problem is that the sewage system appears to be defective and owing to buildings having been built on top of it in places, it makes it very difficult for Aguas y Servicios workers to reach it.
For this reason the residents of Torrecuevas, and the Mayor himself, have requested that the Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa Tropical and Aguas y Servicios do something about it.
Chairman Rafael Caballero claims that since taking over the entity (Mancomunidad) in September, he has urged technical staff at Aguas y Servicios to find a solution. He explained that they were present in Torrecuevas to examine several possible solutions in order to decide which one will go ahead.
The Head of Aguas y Servicios, Alejandro Jurado, pointed out that the Torrecuevas sewage system is very old, built with the materials of the day and using an old irrigation channel (acequia) that runs down the left hand side of the Otívar Road. The narrow dimensions of the irrigation channel and the rate of flow make it difficult for workers to get at a problem if there is a blockage.
Some of the possible solutions examined was to completely substitute the present structure for a new one along the same route, and another solution would involve the compulsory purchase of land.
