A man in his early 30s was arrested on Thursday last week after allegedly slitting the throat of a 90-year-old woman in Murcia.
The woman was in the patio of her home on Calle Mayor in Puente Tocinos when the aggressor scaled the wall in order to gain access to the premises.
The alleged murderer has a criminal record for drug peddling and is a registered drug addict. Apparently, he argued with two of her male grandchildren who live next-door to her some time previously and then on Thursday had decided to have it out with them.
He knocked on their door but got no answer, however, the grandmother came out to ask what he wanted. He reported told her that he would kill her grandchildren if she did not let him into their house, to which she refused.
This was the point where he climbed over a wall to the victim’s house, jumping down into the patio, or yard, if you prefer.
An eyewitness to the altercado said that the assailant, Paco, wanted to kill somebody and being unable to get the grandchildren, he had decided upon the grandmother, Teresa. After reportedly despatching her, he tried to set fire to the living room and then fled.
The first at the scene were fire personnel called out to deal with the house fire, although the fire had not extended further than the affected room.
The Policía Nacional, threw out a net to capture the suspect and tracked him down less than an hour later, just 200 metres from the scene of the murder — in his own home. When they arrested him, they described his attitude as “very calm.”
One of the grandchildren, a 31-year-old man and his 24-year-old girlfriend had to be treated for shock at the scene of the crime.
