Parking a non-electric car (diesel/gasoline) in a recharging-point spaces will get you fined. This includes hybrids with no socket for charging.
According to the Real Decreto 29/2021, which came into force in January, 2023, public parking with over 20 parking spaces must include one for charging electric and hybrid cars at a ratio of one charging point for every 40 parking spaces.
Where it involves parking in front of public buildings, the ratio is one charging point for every 20 parking slots.
Most of these parking spaces for cars whilst they are recharging are marked with an R-308 sign, forbidding parking unless the vehicle is fully electric or hybrid, with an extenal socket for charging.
Parking illegally in these spaces has an anglosism name, “icing,” coined in the USA. Illegally parking in spaces reserved for drivers with mobility problems is also a finable offence, the finable amount of which we will come to now.
It is also a finable offense for an electric car to occupy the space in front of these recharging posts, if they are not recharging. The amount of fine for all three illegal-parking offences is 200 euros.
However, there is no loss of points from a driver’s licence in these cases. Nevertheless, the offending driver does run the risk of getting his car towed away and impounded, which incurs extra cost.
Lastly, most recharging posts have a sign stating the limit that a driver can have his car recharging for. If you go beyond that, you can be charged 90 euros.
