The NASA satellite service, Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS) shows areas affected by fires from yesterday as Dúrcal and La Herradura/Almuñécar.
The fire within the municipality of Almuñécar has affected areas such as El Cerval on its western side, extending towards the north to around the Barranco del Oso and the Barranco del Río Jate.
On the eastern side of the fire it affected the Camino del Río Seco, and towards the south, the el Castillo San Rafael A-7 Cantalobos tunnel.
According to the provided satellite images (from yesterday morning) the damage estimation was around a thousand hectares, but by the evening it was estimated at 1.,434 hectares, or if you prefer, fourteen-million, square metres.
If you travel from the La Herradura A-7 junction towards Almuñécar, the burnt area is clearly visible.
Besides the infoca units, the Diputación de Granada authorised the intervention of the municipal fire services of Almuñécar, Motril, Granada, Guadix and Cádiar, consisting of ten fire trucks and 60 personnel.
On the map you will see another cluster of red squares at the top which represent the fire yesterdy morning within the municipality of Dúrcal in the area known as Cerro Gordo.
