Officers from the Guardia Civil post in Almuñécar and from the Policía Local arrested a man in his mid-20s suspected of carrying out a mugging.
Police believe that the 24-year-old man was behind the mugging of an 81-year-old man last Sunday.

The victim was sitting on a bench with a bag between his feet, containing 600 euros, amongst other things. The alleged culprit approached from behind with the intention of stealing the bag, which led to a struggle.
The police were immediately informed of the mugging and both police forces coordinated a search of the immediate area, upon receiving a description of the assailant from the victim and eyewitnesses.
They soon found somebody matching the description received and upon carrying out a body search they found an envelope with part of the money stolen. He was unable to provide justification for possessing the cash; i.e., where it came from.
The police also searched the immediate area of the arrest and found the discarded bag and the victim’s personal documentation, together with another envelope with the rest of the stolen cash. The victim had explained that the 600 euros were divided into two envelopes, one of which was hidden between the paperwork in the bag and which the mugger evidently overlooked when he ditched it.
