Beware of 50-Euro Notes

The Policía Local in Ogíjares (near Granada) are warning shopkeepers and citizen to be wary of 50-euro notes after a very good forgery was detected in the village.

SPN Forged 50-euro NoteThe banknote came to light and was reported by the establishment which had unwittingly accepted it.

The police point out that a person who knowingly passes on a forged banknote can be held criminally responsible.

In other words, trying to palm it off on somebody else, if you find that you have one, could get you into serious trouble.

What you should do is hand it in to a bank (preferably your own), so that it can be investigated. Don’t expect anything in exchange other than sympathy, of course.

Ray: I would suggest that it is. Notes issued through an ATM tend to be new and in some cases, numbered sequentially – not always. There was a case a year or so ago where a victim of theft could prove that the note in possession of thief was his because he held the note numbers above and below the stolen one and he had the ATM print out, too.

If all your 50 Euro notes come from a bank ATM, is it safe to assume that they will be genuine?
