Almuñécar Town Hall has decided to act and not wait for Costas to sort out the seawall that protects Aquatropic so it has sent in heavy machinery.
It has hired a construction company called Hermacasti for the task with a job budget of just over 47,000 euros.
The Mayor, Juanjo Ruiz Joya, pointed out that the work will take about a month at the most and that the work being carried out is not provisional but rather a final solution.
The Mayor points out that the responsibility for maintaining the seawall is that of Costas (Central Government) but that the Town Hall has acted to rebuild and protect the footpath that runs between the back of Aquatropic and the seawall, as well as a business that is affected.
The Councillor for the Environment and Beaches, Lucía González, pointed out that the Town Hall has been demanding that something be done about it ever since 2015 but to no avail.
Meanwhile the Chairman of the Mancomunidad de la Costa Tropical, Rafael Caballero (who is also a councillor on Almuñécar Town Council) said that sea defences are very important as is the image that the town projects as far as tourism goes.
Editorial comment: it appears that councillors from the Costa Tropical town halls who obtain administrative posts within the Mancomunidad receive salaries for both positions, yet how can anybody do two jobs efficiently if both require full-time commitment?
