AND Emergency Call Centre 112The Policía Nacional informed 112 at 06.45h that several of their patrol cars were trying to locate a driver who had contacted them to say what had happened to him. A few minutes later 112 also received a call from the driver and they were able to pinpoint where the call came from, which was kilometre-point six on the A-92G just before the turning off for Cullar Vega

The caller, a 48-year-old man, had said that he was injured and required medical assistance. The coordination centre sent the fire service, an ambulance and the police. He was soon found and taken to the Hospital de Neurotrauma y Rehabilitación del Virgen de las Nieves.

The AML system that 112 uses permits them to triangulate where calls are coming from so that they can locate a caller even if he or she does not know, or is no state to discern, where they are exactly.

Later in the day, however, a 27-year-old biker lost his life near Cádiar in the Alpujarra Granadina. The call centre received the first call at 13.00h saying that a biker had crashed on the A-348 between KM-points 55 and 56. For reasons unknown he had lost control of the bike and skidded off the road.

When the emergency services arrived, the biker had already died at the scene.
