A man in his eighties was found dead at home after a house fire in Dúrcal around nine in the morning on Tuesday the 16th of last month.
The emergency call centre was alerted by a neighbour who had passed in front of the house and noticed a burnt curtain and a strong smell of smoke. The 2-storey house is on Calle Gloria where the elderly man lived by himself.
When the emergency services arrived (fire, police and ambulance) the fire was already out and the paramedics confirmed that the victim inside was dead. Consequently, the Guardia Civil are investigating the fire and the circumstances of the victim’s death.
The body of the 81-year-old man was found on top of a charcoal fire of the type placed under tables.
Although it will be the autopsy that determines the cause of death, it is thought that he might have fainted or was overcome by carbon-monoxide fumes from the charcoal fire. The only thing damaged in the house was a curtain.
