Padul’s Silo Street Art

Nearly a thousand people turned up for the inauguration of the impressive street art painted onto the sides of the old silo in Padul.

GRA LEC Padul Silo Street ArtThe street artist, El Niño de las Pinturas, explained, that he dedicated this mammoth task to his father, who had passed away not long ago. He also gave away scaled models of El Silo to the first 100 people who came to his stand.

But the inauguration of this street art, which has taken months to complete, was much more than just that as there was a BMX freestyle in the skatepark, live music with Lundara a DJ,Calagat 13. As for the bar, it was set up and run by the Asociación Vale.

The Mayor, Celia Villena, thanked the artist, consisting of four giant paintings – one for each side of the building – reflecting the heritage of the municipality. She also explained that the project actually began almost three years ago with it being presented before a Plenary Meeting of the Town Council. The council meeting was held during the Pandemic so it was held online rather than in person.

However, for most of the councillors, claims ex-councillor, Joaquín Muñoz, they thought that it was a madcap idea when first presented but little by little modifications were made to the project which have resulted in what we see today. Expenses were covered by the 2022 and 2023 municipal budgets.
