A teenage football player survived a cardiac arrest during a match in the Albolote sports stadium; a town just outside the city of Granada.
The 15-year old suddenly collapsed on the pitch and went into a fit, however he was rapidly attended to by a doctor amongst the spectators, explained the manager of RCD Espanyol de Albolote, Francisco José Fernández.
The existence of a defibrillator within the grounds was essential to restarting the boy’s heart, although he had still not regained consciousness.
“You see incidents like this on the TV but never think that you will be involved in it,” said the Manager, adding, “We saw the lad fall for no apparent reasons and immediately begin to convulse; the blood drained from our faces.”
This happened around noon on Saturday the 27th. In a very short time a UVI ambulance arrived and intubated the victim before speeding off to the A&E at the Hospital Virgen de las Nieves, where he was put in the ICU ward in a serious condition and is presently in an induced coma.
