It's good to see that administrations run by opposing political parties are cooperating and not putting politics before population needs.
The Junta de Andalucia has provided Salobreña with new signposting around the old town for improving its efficiency as a tourist destination.
These sign posts and noticeboards are distributed not only on the streets but also in the castle itself, giving instructions where to find points of interest. They include tabletop-like information boards.
In the case of the castle there are information boards giving the history and characteristics of spaces within that include QR codes and the information in five different languages.
The grant for all this was 76,000 euros awarded by the Junta to Salobreña as an official Municipio Turístico.
Accordingly, Junta bigwigs visited the castle and old town to see the end results, ushered around by the Vice-Mayor, María Carmen Rodríguez Callejón.
The grant was fixed at ten percent of the Patrica; in other words the participation in regional taxes, which is the special rate for Municipio Turístico.
Whilst the Junta representative was in town, the Vice-Mayor took the opportunity to tell him about other projects that the Town Hall would like to carry out, such as the Plan de Sostenibilidad Turística en Destino, for which Salobreña received a grant of 2.5-millon euros and the Senda Litoral project, thanks to grants both from the Provincial Council and the Junta.
