A German woman who was practicing paragliding in La Herradura had an accident and was seriously hurt.
Owing to the seriousness of her injuries, she was taken to the general hospital, Traumatología, in the city of Granada, according to the Policía Local de Almuñécar.
The accident occurred around noon yesterday, which was when the emergency services received the call out.
Fire personnel brought the woman up to where an ambulance was waiting to take her to Las Tejas football ground, where she was transferred into an air-ambulance helicopter for the flight up to Granada.

Martin. This is incorrect. Sports insurance is only mandatory for federated athletes. For those taking part in organised events the organiser is obliged to ensure all those taking part are federated or buy an insurance for the event.
So in short if you are just training or practicing on your own or with friends then insurance is not obligatory.
Malcolm: Yes, in order to practice high-risk sports, you are required to have insurance coverage, I believe.
