Circunvalación Sur Opens

Motril's Circunvalación Sur de Motril opened to traffic for the first time yesterday, thus completing the municipal ring-road system.

MOT Ronda Sur Inaugurated Damian CarmonaThe four million needed to complete this urban, dual carriageway was provided by the Junta de Andalucia (2.5m) and the rest from the municipal coffers.

This artery has a length of 500 metres and runs from the Vadillo industrial estate to Avenida de la Esperanza, which is the eastern access to the autovía.

The new road bears the name Avenida Damián Carmona, in recognition of the Motril businessman who founded Cafés Sol y Crema.

The conservative Mayor, Luisa Garcia Chamorro, tried to change the name of the bypass that runs from the Alcampo roundabout to the port road, which is named in honour of the Canadian, Doctor Norman Bethune, who helped save the lives of many Motrileños during the Spanish Civil War.

Some say that the move to change the name was because he had helped on the side of the Republican Government, whom right-wing Spaniards considered Reds; i.e, communists.

Editorial comment: why we have to have two politicians stomping down a new section of a road, instead of just the  road concerned is anybody’s guess, but that’s what came with the press release.

So under the new rules, will everything outside not be charged, but a charge if you go inside the perimeter, so the tax office or immigration, under the new eoc rules?

Politicians. The same the world over. It’s all about the me!

Don’t see them trying to help the slave labour cash in hand, via a slave master. Black people working for the landowner. Or stopping Bull murder. It’s all about the PR Opportunity!

Thank goodness it’s not called Starbucks or Costa Coffee bypass!
