It was one Thursday towards the middle of last month that a snorkel diver swimming near the Peñón came across dozens of bullet cartridges.
The ammunition was of different calibres numbering around 140 cartridges, most of which were standard Nato 7.62 (rifle) rounds.
The Guardia Civil were immediately informed and with the help of the snorkel diver they managed to retrieve the discarded ammunition. Obviously, they caused quite a stir, arousing the curiosity of nearby beachgoers.
According to the Guardia Civil, the ammunition was of no use having spent quite some time in the water but was handed over to the Motril armoury at the Guardia Civil post there. In the meantime, the police have opened an investigation into where they came from.
