With the scarcity of water, the Junta is at least attempting to stop municipalities losing water, which is the case of Albuñuelas.
It’s not the only municipality in Granada, that has been given a grant to sort out its leaking water pipes; Diezma, Salar, Cádiar, Domingo Pérez, Galera, La Malahá and Montefrío amongst others, have been included.
The Junta’s plan is aimed at towns with less than 20,000 inhabitants (14 have been selected) using a budget of just over 2.7-million euros.
The Regional Minister for Agriculture, Fishing, Water & Royal Development, Carmen Reyes, was quick to point out how the Junta was helping the Central Government to get the Rules distribution system executed, because of “its importance as a source for domestic and irrigation needs.”
Of course, as the Embalse de Rules eventually drops to feed the Costa Tropical, then Embalse de Béznar, which together with the Guadalfeo that feeds it, will drain considerably as well.
