The Granada-based, Policía Nacional rescued six women, victims of sexual exploitation in a flat in Motril, where they were allegedly forced into prostitution.
Two people were arrested; a 46-year-old Romanian man and a 44-year-old woman from Paraguay, both accused of exploiting these women, all of foreign nationality, and all of whom were in the country without the relevant documentation.
Officers belonging to the Brigada Provincial de Extranjería y Fronteras de Granada opened an investigation upon receiving information from the Motril CNP police station.
The police operation soon confirmed that the flat was run as a brothel on a 24/7 basis. It also established that several women went there every day whilst others appeared to reside there. There was also a constant coming and going of ‘clients.’
When the police did raid the flat, they found it in “insalubridad, hacinamiento y suciedad” conditions; i.e., unsanitary, overcrowded and dirty. All the rooms were turned into ‘bedrooms,’ except for a tiny kitchen and bathroom in order to maximise ‘workspace.’ There was even a mattress on a terrace.
Each of the six women reportedly had to pay 200 euros a week for a room earning the Romanian 5,600 euros a month, on top of which he charged 10% for each session. The Paraguayan woman, on the other hand, was the enforcer, using verbal and physical violence to force the victims to accept certain clients. This woman, who had already been found guilty of doing precisely the same on a previous occasion, also took a percentage of the takings.
The victims were all Central and South Americans from Colombia, Venezuela, Peru and Argentina.
Editorial comment: well, the Romanian will soon find out what it’s like to be sexually exploited if found guilty, as will the Paraguayan woman.
